What are the benefits of engaging a PMC?
Get assurance of consultant’s quality
Engaging a PMC provides your company with the assurance that the consultant has the necessary knowledge, skills and experience for projects. Consultants applying for PMC certification are required to show that they have the experience in handling consulting projects or have been working in the management capacity. They are also required to go through training modules which cover areas like the management of a consulting project and the application procedures for government incentives.
After training, they are required to achieve a minimum of 70% grade in each of the training modules to earn the PMC designation. In addition, after certification, each PMC has to document sufficient Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours by attending courses, seminars, conducting research, or reading relevant articles. This gives assurance that each PMC will possess the latest knowledge and skills associated with the practice of management consulting.
It is unlikely that PMCs will quote a premium for their services as the market for management consultancy is very competitive.
The PMC is an industry-led, voluntary certification scheme. Management consultants do not need to be PMC certified to practice their profession. Instead government agencies consider PMC scheme as a mechanism to ensure that consultants tapping on government funding are qualified and credible. For example, SPRING now requires that consultants under the Business Excellence and SMART programme be PMC certified. This would likely be expanded to other programmes and incentives under SPRING and other government agencies as they reviewed to consider making PMC a requirement to tap on government funding scheme.
